2009 Survey of Educator Supply and Demand

We invite and encourage you to be part of AAEE's 33rd annual study of educator supply and demand.

• We are not asking you to take time to locate specific data.
• We are asking you to reflect upon your education majors and what they experienced during the last recruiting season (those who were job hunting for positions starting August/September 2008).
• As you think about the demand for your students by last year's employers, consider:
  • What did your on-campus recruiting schedules look like? What majors were requested? What majors were omitted?
  • What did your job fair interview schedules look like?
  • What types of vacancies were posted to "education jobs" website?
  • What was the "buzz" from students? From employers? From faculty members? From student teaching supervisors?
  • What is your overall sense of the demand for your various majors?

As in any survey research (e.g., political polls or Phi Delta Kappa/Gallup surveys of American education), the results are subject to sampling error. We have demonstrated through the use of both the annual longitudinal survey and statistical procedures that the results we present are both valid and reliable. Of course, the higher the response rate, the more precise the results are. Your contribution will help us produce a research report that accurately reflects the current state of employment in education. Thank you in advance for participating in this important project.
