The university fellowship competition for new graduate students is a university-wide competition based upon nomination by faculty or committees within one of the College's six schools or departments. Applicants can do little to advance their candidacy besides having excellent credentials and a complete application file, including GRE scores. Deadlines to submit all material to be nominated for a Fellowship are as follows: January 1 for U.S. Citizens and November 30th for International Applicants. The final selection of scholarship recipients may be affected by the results of the university and college fellowship competition.
Continuing students on fellowship may apply for scholarships. The amount of fellowship support available may be considered when evaluating students for scholarships that emphasize financial need.
Students who have been appointed to Graduate Associate (GA) positions may apply for scholarships. Based upon the criteria of individual scholarship funds, scholarship committees determine how, if at all, the GA fee authorization and stipend should influence the selection of scholarship recipients.
Depending on a student's financial need for the academic year, as derived from the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), receipt of scholarships from the College of Education & Human Ecology may reduce eligibility for need-based loans or other need-based financial aid.
Receipt of additional scholarships from the College of Education & Human Ecology may not exceed a student's Cost of Education for the academic year (tuition/fees, books, room/board, and other miscellaneous expenses). Should the scholarship(s) exceed the Cost of Education, the Financial Aid Office will contact the College to reduce the scholarship(s) award(s). If the student has additional costs (i.e. research, study abroad), an appeal may be filed with the Office of Student Financial Aid to determine if the budget may be increased and the scholarship(s) maintained.
