Frequently Asked Questions

What academic units are in the college? Where are they located?

The College of Education and Human Ecology is composed of three schools and three departments. The schools are: Educational Policy and Leadership, Physical Activity and Educational Services, and Teaching and Learning. The departments are: Consumer Sciences, Human Development and Family Science, and Human Nutrition. College units are housed in 13 buildings on the Columbus campus, but are concentrated in Arps, Campbell, Pomerene, and Ramseyer halls. In March 2007, Physical Activity and Educational Services will move into new quarters: a wing of the Recreational and Physical Activity Center (which replaced Larkins Hall).

The dean's office is headquartered in 127 Arps Hall, 1945 N. High Street. The senior associate dean for academic affairs is in 350 Campbell Hall, 1767 Neil Avenue. Undergraduate Student Services is located in 201 Campbell Hall, 1767 Neil Ave.

Will my degree programs change?

There will not be changes in current programs or requirements for students. Current majors and specializations, academic advisers, and course offerings will remain the same. If you have questions, please speak with your academic adviser.

Where will I go if I need to process paperwork, such as getting forms signed or ordering a copy of my transcript?

Please continue to go to your academic adviser, school or department student services offices. In the future, if service locations change, you will be notified. In addition, any office relocations will be listed on the EHE Web site.

Is it possible that academic units may change?

No changes are forecast in the near future. However, now that the new college is officially here, Dean David Andrews will lead an open planning process with students, faculty and staff to determine the optimal internal structure going forward. This will begin in the 2006-2007 school year.

What will happen to the alumni societies of the two former colleges?

There are three alumni groups: the College of Education Alumni Society (known as EdLums), the College of Human Ecology Alumni Society, and the School of Health, Physical Education and Recreation Alumni Society/Physical Activity and Educational Services (SHPERA/PAES). They will continue working to serve the College of Education and Human Ecology alumni, all 80,000 of them! The societies’ first combined activities were in September 2006. They invited the Classes of 1956, 1981 and 1996 to a Reunion Dinner, held the night before the annual Fall Football Rally.
