Smart Phones - Before You Buy
In accordance with University policy related to minimum security standards and encryption requirements for potentially sensitive data, the College of Education and Human Ecology fully supports the following smart phone technologies only:
Blackberry
Customers are required to pay a one-time, transferable $200.00 Blackberry Enterprise Service License and Server activation fee in order to access the College e-mail system and wirelessly synchronize their e-mail, calendar, contacts and tasks. To purchase your license, please submit a request to the Service Desk at servicedesk@ehe.osu.edu with your department chart field information.
iPhone 4 and above, iPad devices
Customers are required to notify the Office of Technology and Enhanced Learning (OTEL) of the acquisition the iPhone 4 or iPad so that the device can be registered with the iPhone/iPad database. OTEL will assist in correctly connecting the iPhone to the College e-mail system to ensure the most recent security protocols are in place to protect and encrypt any messages accessed through the device.
Other Devices
The College does not support any other version of Smart Phone technology at this time as they do not meet the minimum security standards. OTEL technicians are prohibited from installing any software, drivers, or protocols that would enable a smart phone or device in accessing College resources.
Faculty, staff and students are strongly discouraged from attempting to connect to the College e-mail system through other smart phones or mobile devices other than those listed above, including those utilizing the Active Sync protocol due to these security concerns, and a potential violation of the University Acceptable Use of Technology policy.
