Beverly McCauley Klecker
I am Beverly McCauley Klecker, a three-time alumna of the College. On Sunday, April 27, 2008, I was deeply honored to receive the 2008 Distinguished Researcher Award from Morehead State University where I am an associate/tenured professor in the College of Education. My research-intensive PhD (1996) resulted in my ability to make a difference at Morehead, which U.S. News & World Report lists as "one of the top 25 public universities in the south."
When I returned to Ohio State as a nontraditional student, I entered the program now known as Quantitative Research, Measurement, and Evaluation in Education and worked as a GRA with Professor William Loadman. For dissertation research, I surveyed the 10,544 teachers and 302 principals working in the state-funded Ohio Venture Capital Schools. The completed dissertation -- committee chaired by Professor Loadman -- received a Phi Delta Kappa outstanding dissertation award.
Immediately after finishing my Ph.D., I went to Kentucky to study the state's unique school reform initiatives. I first worked for Eastern Kentucky University, then the Kentucky Department of Education, and since 2001, at Morehead State University.
I recently served as Vice-President for E-Folios and Assessment for the international Society for Technology and Teacher Education (SITE), and currently serve on the Foundations Board of Directors for the Mid-South Educational Research Association. My research on school reform and assessment has resulted in more than 30 publications and 50 presentations and has been cited frequently by national and international scholars.
I am currently a "Faculty Fellow" for the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education for the Kentucky Adult Learner Initiative. I also serve on a statewide team, facilitated by Dr. Joe Murphy from Vanderbilt University, to evaluate Kentucky's Educational Leadership Master's Degree redesign.
I have used my OSU education to "pay forward," by sharing my love for research and assessment in education. I also stay linked to Ohio State through my life membership in The Ohio State University Alumni Association and by staying in touch with my college.
Beverly Klecker received her BS in Education in 1960, an MA in Education in 1966, and a PhD degree in 1996. To learn more about her award and experience, visit http://www.morehead-st.edu/news/release.aspx?id=32306
