Advising in Consumer Sciences

Each student admitted to a major in Consumer Sciences is assigned a full-time, permanent, professional advisor to help you navigate the academic curriculum and plan your career at OSU.
Working with Your Advisor
- Know who your advisor is.
To find out who your assigned advisor is, please visit the Grades and Advising section of Buckeye Link to access either your Advising Report or Degree Audit. Both of these documents will list the last name of your advisor. - Call 292-9261 for an appointment with your advisor.
Appointments are typically 30 minutes in length. If you need extra assistance, notify the scheduler you will need more time for your appointment. - Prepare a list of questions for your advisor.
Preparing ahead will ensure all of your questions get answered and improve your advising experience. - Be on time to your appointment.
Please be courteous to your advisor and other students by being on time. Advisors days are scheduled, and lateness will disrupt others schedules or shorten your time with your advisor.
What to Expect from Your Advisor
Your advisor can assist in many areas of curriculum planning. They are also a great source of campus information. Below is a list of what you can expect your advisor to help with.
Advisors can help you with:
- Course planning and scheduling after registration period is closed
- Assist in obtaining class permissions from Business College
- Updates on course changes and time changes
- Information on campus services
- Petitions for courses
- Adding and dropping classes between the 3rd and 7th Friday
- General career direction
- Department information
Advisors cannot help with:
- Financial Aid information
- Disability Services
- Getting class permissions from instructors in department
- Dropping grades from previous quarters or past quarter deadline
- Assessing transfer credits outside EHE
- Dropping classes after the 7th Friday of the quarter
Consumer Sciences Advisors
Current OSU students interested in learning more about a Consumer Sciences major should attend a Business/Consumer Cluster information session.
