Help Us Identify People In Need

The Body Image and Health Task Force was established in 1996. It was created by concerned individuals over issues of anorexia, bulimia, excessive exercise laxative and diuretic abuse, fad dieting, and disorders dealing with body hatred and self-mutilation that prevail on The Ohio State University campus. This collaborative group is comprised of various disciplines and departments from the campus community. This includes Counseling and Consultation services, the Student Health Center, Recreational Sports, Athletics, and the Department of Consumer and Textile Sciences.

The Task Force has created a mission incorporating OSU’s education, research, and outreach resources to encourage healthy behaviors related to body image by challenging current norms and by providing resources and referrals.

A Crisis Intervention Team that consists of a physician, a social worker, a dietitian, and an attorney has been established to provide referrals, resources, and appointments to anyone with an eating disorder who is in immediate need of assistance. For more information on this team contact Penny Winkle, LISW, Counseling and Consultation Services, at 614-292-5726.

The Task Force needs your assistance in educating the university community that help is available to those who need immediate attention. Currently the Task Force is designing a marketing plan to get this much-needed information out to students. Sources considered including attending WC classes, student orientation presentations, and residence hall programs. Chairing the efforts of this Task Force is Nancy Ann Rudd, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Consumer and Textile Sciences.
