Obesity

Obesity is a major health concern in the US, especially in Columbus, Ohio, which is considered one of the "fattest cities" in the country.  Obese and overweight people are teased, discriminated against, are considered unattractive, and suffer from numerous health problems.  It is estimated that almost two-thirds of the US population (1.29 million people) are overweight, and almost one-third (61.3 million) are obese.  Over $117 billion are spent annually to treat problems (i.e., diabetes, hyper-tension, gall bladder disease, heart disease)  associated with obesity.

People who are overweight or obese often suffer from a poor body image and have low self-esteem.

The BITF is committed to helping obese and overweight people develop a health lifestyle and educating others about tolerance and acceptance.
