Obtaining Credit for an Internship

To obtain credit for your internship, during the Semester Prior, please follow the steps below…

  1. Check the prerequisites to make sure that you qualify to complete your internship for credit:

    3 cr = 63 hrs at internship site (appx. 9 hrs/wk)
    6 cr = 126 hrs at internship site (appx. 18 hrs/wk)
    9 cr = 189 hrs at internship site (appx. 27 hrs/wk)
    12 cr = 252 hrs at internship site (appx. 36 hrs/wk)

    AUTUMN or SPRING Semesters (14 weeks)
    3 cr = 126 hrs at internship site (appx. 9hrs/wk)
    6 cr = 252 hrs at internship site (appx. 18hrs/wk)
    9 cr = 378 hrs at internship site (appx. 24hrs/wk)
    12 cr = 504 hrs at internship site (appx. 36hrs/wk)

    Course Description: Supervised practical experience at a department approved internship site related to the student's selected major. This online course must be taken concurrently while completing the internship experience. The course includes an investigation and analysis of assigned problems and documentation of experience.

    Graded: Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory

    AUTUMN Semester Only

    Supervised practical experience at a department approved internship site related to the student's selected major. This course is designed to be taken the term after an internship experience is completed at an approved work site. Students will be enrolled in this online course and are expected to synthesize their internship through assignments, online discussions, and portfolio development.

    Spring Semester: Secure internship and have approved via process below
    Summer Term: Complete internship, track hours, and work completed at site
    Autumn Semester: If approved you will be enrolled in CONSCI 4191 for this term

  2. Complete Student Learning Agreement with internship site supervisor
    1. Discuss your learning goals
    2. Hours (Note: Internship hour requirement must be met by the end of the semester)
    3. Work out details of projects/activities/responsibilities with site supervisor
    4. Secure supervisor's signature
    5. Make copies of the signed agreement for yourself and your supervisor.
  3. Complete Course Enrollment Permission Form with appropriate course information (Refer to Buckeye Link course listed for appropriate course number). If internship is approved, this form will be used to place you into the appropriate internship course.
  4. E-mail a scanned copy of the signed Student Learning Agreement AND completed Course Enrollment Permission form to the appropriate Internship Coordinator for your major (see below) by the 15th Friday of the Semester Prior to your internship (Ex: 15th Friday of Autumn Semester for Spring Semester enrollment). The Internship Coordinator will review the internship documents to determine if you are eligible to obtain academic credit.

    Agreements and Permission forms will not be accepted after the first week of the semester in which you plan to complete your internship.

    If there is a need to modify the credit hours for your internship, instructor permission is required- permission will not be given after the 2nd Friday.

  5. Once the internship has been approved by your internship coordinator she will provide the signed Course Enrollment Permission Form to Undergraduate Student Services for processing and course enrollment.
