Researching an Internship
It is suggested that you properly plan for an internship by beginning the research process at least Two (2) Quarters in advance of completing your internship for credit.
- Gain information about internships in any of the following ways:
- Consumer Sciences website
- CS 595 (Professional Development)
- CS Advisor or Internship Coordinator
- Special Internship meetings
- CS Resource Room
- Consult your academic advisor about appropriate internship opportunities
- Visit Career Services and update/revise resume and cover letter
- Make contact with potential employer in one of the following ways:
- Fill out company's internship application (online, in person, etc.)
- Contact a company that you wish to work for and request a meeting
- Download the "Student Learning Agreement" form
- Become familiar with internship expectations
- Start to develop the goals that you have for your internship
- Prepare for interview with potential employer
- Interview with employer
- Discuss your learning goals with employer
- Take note of job responsibilities/activities that will help you reach these goals
- Send Thank You note or e-mail to employer
- Be patient and wait for an internship offer!
