Fashion Illustration Thematic Project
At the end of each quarter, students who are taking the Fashion Illustration course (TC370) are required to complete a final project that will allow them to apply their knowledge and illustration techniques learned from this class, to develop a line of clothing from a given theme. Starting from the theme or inspiration, students then will research the theme, and explain how it can be applied to one's designs. Furthermore, students will also present researches regarding to the market segment interested, price points, functionality and special needs, fabric design, pattern design, and style design.
There are total of 5 components to this project, which are the research and design statement, storyboard or inspiration board, thumbnail sketches, flat drawings and construction details, and a final illustration that includes at least three fashion figures.
CAD Draping Project
The emphasis of this class is to understand the technical aspect of clothing production and still be creative at the same time. The draping part of this project will allow the students to understand body curves and needs, and how to create better fitting details for a garment.
Students started draping on a half scale body with a yard of muslin fabric. Then they will mark on the fabric in order to make it into patterns to use as a guide, which will be transferred on to the fashion fabric of their choice, to complete the garment.
After the garment is sewn and completed, students illustrated flat drawings, specification measurements, and produce construction details to explain their designs. And finally, an illustration with their design is done on the computer.
CAD Unusual Media Project
This was a special design project that allowed students to be extremely creative using unusual materials. CAD students chose the material they would like to work with, and draped on another classmate's body.
