CS Graduate Programs
Application Process
Students are admitted to graduate programs in the Department of Consumer Sciences for Autumn Quarter only. We encourage you to start your application process early. Allowing time to fully prepare your application will enable you to devote sufficient resources and thought to each step without rushing yourself or the individuals who will write your letters of recommendation.
An applicant must meet the requirements for admission to the Graduate School as well as criteria established by the graduate program. Admission requirements include:
- An earned baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution
- A cumulative grade-point average (GPA) equivalent to at least a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale in all prior undergraduate college-level course work
- GRE (General Record Exam) or GMAT (Graduate Management Admissions Test) taken within the past five years. Scores above the 60th percentile are needed to be competitive for admission
- TOEFL, MELAB or IELTS scores are required for applicants whose native language is not English, and who have been educated primarily outside the United States. Minimum scores are: TOEFL: 550 paper, 213 CBT, 79 IBT; MELAB: 82; IELTS: 7.0.
- Statement of Purpose. In writing the Statement of Purpose, the applicant should address:
- how his/her undergraduate program, as well as any additional experience such as internships or jobs, prepared them for graduate work;
- the particular area of consumer sciences that the applicant intends to pursue while in graduate school; and
- the applicant's long term career goals.
