The Ohio State University invites nominations and applications for the position of Dean of the College of Education and Human Ecology. As the college's chief executive officer, the dean is responsible for advancing the college's academic mission of teaching, research, and service. The dean reports to the Executive Vice President and Provost and serves on the Council of Deans.
The Ohio State University, a premier research institution and Ohio's flagship university, is located in the state capital of Columbus, a growing yet highly affordable metropolitan area of about 1.5 million people that has been ranked as one of the country's best places to live and work. In addition, the University has 18 colleges, five regional campuses, and a budget of more than $4 billion.
The recently merged College of Education and Human Ecology has approximately 193 regular faculty members and 356 administrative, research and non-tenure instructional staff in administrative and academic units and research centers. The College's total general budget for FY07 was approximately $40 million, with an endowment of $30 million. In addition, the faculty garnered $17 million in federal and non-federal funding in FY07.
The College is organized into three departments and three schools: Department of Consumer Sciences; Department of Human Development and Family Science; Department of Human Nutrition; School of Educational Policy and Leadership; School of Physical Activity and Educational Services; and School of Teaching and Learning. The College has an enrollment of 5,220 students: 3,683 undergraduates and 1,537 graduate students, 327 of whom are international (undergraduate and graduate) students.
Applicants should have a terminal degree in one of the college's disciplines or a related discipline; achievements in research, teaching, and service commensurate with a tenured appointment at the level of full professor; a record of administrative leadership; and a record of successful fundraising and partnerships, outreach and leadership with external stakeholders. Candidates should also have a demonstrated record of fostering social and intellectual diversity. In addition, preference is for experience in a top Research I University and building relationships locally, nationally, and internationally.
The position will be available on July 1, 2008. Salary and other considerations will be consistent with the University's commitment to recruiting the best-qualified individual.
