Dr. David Bloome, School of Teaching and Learning, is a Professor and researcher interested in how people use written language to construct knowledge and learning opportunities, to construct social relationships and social identity, to create collective memory, to connect people and events across time and space, and to improve their communities and the various "worlds" in which they live. Dr. Bloome is interested in the potential of classroom education (preschool through high school) for connecting academic learning and local knowledge and for building communities. Dr. Bloome is also interested in the teaching and learning of reading and writing in ways that have meaning for students, their families, and their communities, and that integrate academic excellence with social justice.
Dr. Michael Glassman is an Associate Professor in the Department of Human Development and Family Science. Dr. Glassman's research interests lie in the area of democracy in education by exploring the role of the democratic classroom in the education process and the importance of maintaining a process-oriented curriculum. Dr. Glassman is also interested in democratic community and decision making through the development of democratic groups in different venues who explore their role in the decision making process.
Dr. Hugo Melgar-Quinonez is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Human Nutrition. He also holds appointments as a nutrition specialist with Ohio State University Extension and the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center. His research addresses the following issues: 1) Food security and community nutrition in immigrant Latino population groups in Ohio and the United States; and 2) Development and validation of household food security measurements in Latin America and other countries in the developing world.
Dr. Jan Nespor, School of Educational Policy and Leadership, is a Professor of Cultural Foundations, Technology, and Qualitative Inquiry. Dr. Nespor's research interests are educational anthropology, school organization and politics, educational time and space, qualitative methodology, educational change, and disability studies in education.
Dr. Cynthia Dillard, School of Teaching and Learning, is a Professor of Multicultural Education. Dr. Dillard's major research interests include critical multicultural education, spirituality in teaching and learning, epistemological concerns in research and African/African American feminist studies. Most recently, Dr. Dillard's research has focused in Ghana, West Africa, where she has established a preschool and is enstooled as Nana Mansa II, Queen Mother of Development, in the village of Mpeasem.
