The School of Teaching and Learning offers innovative programs for those beginning a teaching career, those who seek to add an endorsement to their license or to deepen their research-based knowledge to inform their teaching, and those seeking to become a researcher/scholar. The School’s faculty, staff and graduate students all work to improve the educational experiences of students throughout Ohio and the world. Collectively they bring a wealth of classroom, research, and university experience to assist our students in the process of learning. The School’s undergraduate programs include: American Sign Language, Interdisciplinary Middle Childhood Education Pre-Education for Early and Middle Childhood, and the Education Minor.
Our graduate level teacher licensure programs (M.Ed.) prepare teachers to work in a diversity of settings--urban, rural, as well as suburban. The School, and the College, has a particular focus on the improvement of urban schools. The School is also dedicated to improving the education of children with special needs in inclusive, general-education classrooms.
The School also offers a Master of Arts (M.A.) with many areas of study. This M.A. program, in addition to preparing students for advanced work at the Ph.D. level, provides teachers the opportunity to study research in their field, develop their research skills, and learn how to enhance their teaching.
The Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) Program in the school prepares top educators from across the United States and around the world for highly productive careers as educational researchers, teacher educators, and district, state, and national leaders. Through the combination of a rigorous curriculum and a supportive social environment, students become thoughtful, interdisciplinary scholars who investigate issues of learning and teaching in classrooms, schools, families, and other community contexts.
