Ph.D. Graduation Process

Candidates for the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree must apply by the second Friday of the quarter of graduation.

Applications to graduate are available on the Graduate School's Web site at http://www.gradsch.osu.edu/ or in the Office of Academic Services in 227 Arps Hall on the Columbus campus. Completed applications should be submitted to 227 Arps.

To be eligible for the doctoral degree, students must meet the following criteria:

  1. Successfully complete a minimum of 135 approved graduate credit hours, with at least 90 hours earned after the master's degree and 45 hours earned at this institution.
  2. Successfully complete an approved dissertation within five years of passing the Candidacy Exam.
  3. Successfully complete the Final Oral Examination.
  4. Maintain a 3.0 GPA or better in all graduate courses.
