Office of Academic Services – Register for Classes

Important Things to Remember

Before registering for classes, you should contact your faculty advisor.

Deadline dates - please be aware of the schedule of important dates as published by the Registrar's Office for each quarter. You can find them on the University Registrar's web site at: http://registrar.osu.edu/. Just click on important dates.

Some classes require the instructor's permission before you can enroll, other courses have prerequisites that you do not meet but would like to have waived. To add these types of courses, download a "Course Enrollment Permission Form" on-line at http://www.gradsch.ohio-state.edu/Depo/PDF/CourseEnrollment.pdf. and obtain any appropriate signatures. Return to 227 Arps Hall.

Continuing students should remember:

  • Adding any class after the first Friday requires permission and signatures to enroll. After the first Friday and through the second Friday, you must have the permission and signature of the instructor to enter a class. After the second Friday through the third Friday, you must have the permission and signatures of the instructor and the Department Chair of the course you want to take. After the third Friday, you must file a petition with Graduate School, 247 University Hall.
  • You will pay late registration fees if you register after the published deadlines on the University Registrar's web site. Please visit the Registrar's website to obtain a list of deadlines.
  • If you have a Graduate Assistantship, please ensure you have registered for the correct hours to be eligible for your tuition fee waiver.
  • You will pay late payment fees if you pay after the published fee payment deadline, which is 7 days prior to the start of the quarter/semester.
  • You will be assessed charges for Student Health Insurance unless you specifically request a waiver during registration. If you are assessed charges for Student Health Insurance, you have until the published date to request the waiver. You must have proof of insurance to request the waiver. See the Student Health Insurance web site for more information.
  • You will be assessed forfeiture fees if you drop and add classes after the first Friday of the quarter/semester. Please check with the Graduate School before you make schedule changes after the first Friday if you have questions about forfeiture fees.
  • The Registrar's Office publishes the "Refund/Forfeiture Fee" schedule each quarter/semester at http://registrar.osu.edu/registration/.
  • If you are not sure how refund/forfeiture fees work, please talk to someone in the Student Services Office (RA 122), at the Graduate School (247 University Hall) or the Student Services Center (Student Academic Services Building-Lane Avenue).

Waitlists

If the section you are interested in is full, you will be given the option to waitlist for that section. You are added into a course from the waitlist on a "first-on, first-off" basis as space becomes available that fits your schedule. You should attend the first week of class if your waitlist number is low. The waitlist closes after the first Friday of the quarter. After that time no one will be added to a class from the waitlist.

It is your responsibility to know whether or not you have been put into a class and to monitor your waitlist on a regular basis. You will be notified via e-mail if you are added to a class from the waitlist, so be sure to check your e-mail often, in addition to your schedule.

Schedule of Classes

The Ohio State University no longer prints paper copies of its Schedule of Classes for general distribution. The Schedule and the Course Description Bulletin are available online at: http://buckeyelink.osu.edu. Just scroll down under "Academics."

When using the online bulletin, fill in the appropriate quarter/semester, campus (Columbus), and department (Education: Teaching & Learning). Helpful hints for registration are available under Student Center Help at http://buckeyelink.osu.edu. Current tuition information is available at http://registrar.osu.edu/.
