Biographical Information:

Karen Irving is an Assistant Professor of Mathematics, Science and Technology in the School of Teaching and Learning. She earned her B.A. and M.S. in Chemistry at Bucknell University and Ph.D. in Science Education at the University of Virginia. Karen taught chemistry for 20 years at the community college, university, and secondary school levels in both public and private schools in Virginia, North Carolina and Tennessee. As a Fellow at the Center for Technology and Teacher Education at the University of Virginia, she pursued her research interests of exploring, developing and implementing science lessons using educational technology in inquiry-based lessons in the secondary school classroom. Her research has focused on the preparation of technology-enriched preservice science teachers.
