In October 1997 the School of Teaching & Learning established the
Office of International Development & Research
Support (OIDRS) to support the School of Teaching & Learning's commitment to leading worldwide efforts to
adva nce teaching and learning and to
engage in research and development of curriculum and instruction to effectively prepare teachers and meet the learning needs of diverse students and scholars.
Since its' inception, OIDRS has provided research support to faculty, promoted the internationalization of School of Teaching & Learning programs that prepare teachers and teacher educators from around the world, and provided opportunities for faculty to work abroad. Evidence of OIDRS's success is found in the robust research climate that exists within the School, as well as the numerous grants and contracts secured by the School's faculty and staff. Dr. Sue Dechow, the Director of OIDRS,
has been involved with international education, both as a professor and administrator,
for more than 25 years. Since 1986 Dr. Dechow has developed and
directed several
multi-million dollar projects at Ohio State in support of higher education
and teacher education research and development. Dr. Dechow holds degrees in English Education and Teaching English-as-a-Second Language from the University of Illinois. Her doctoral degree in Educational Policy and Leadership is from Ohio State University. Dr. Dechow is a specialist in the development and evaluation of customized teacher education curricula and programs, cross-cultural communication, and qualitative research. |
