Resources at the Center
The Martha King Seminar Room, 200 Ramseyer Hall, houses three collections:
Bonnie Chambers Children's Literature Collection and Teaching Resource
The Bonnie Chambers Children's Literature Collection and Teaching Resource is displayed on open shelves in the Martha King Seminar Room. The late Dr. Bonnie Chambers, a professor at Bowling Green State University and a Ph.D. graduate of the former Language, Literature, and Reading program at Ohio State, bequeathed her large collection of children's books to the Center. She was a discriminating collector who selected books of high quality with many possibilities for classroom application, some of which are reflected in shelving categories such as "Transitional Readers," "Wordless Books," and "Writers and Writing." Her passion for poetry and for the art of the picturebook are likewise represented by an ample number of critically acclaimed titles in both areas.
Resources are listed in the Martha King Center Resources Index. Please click below link to view current index of Bonnie Chambers Children's Literature Collection and Teaching Resource in PDF format.
Professional Resources
Academic books concerned with issues of language and literacies are added annually to a collection of contemporary and historical books.
Martha L. King Book Collection of Language and Literacies
Donated by Dr. Martha L. King, this collection includes categories such as Child Development and Learning, Early Literacy, Reading, Writing & Spelling, Informal Education, Literary criticism, and children's literature.
Which books can be borrowed
We encourage all faculty and graduate students to borrow books from the Bonnie Chambers Collection of children's literature and Martha L. King Book Collection if they are interested in using them in their teaching. However, Professional Resources are not non-circulating and should not be removed from the room.
How to borrow and return books
Self check-out: A red clipboard is hanging by the door with a sheet that people should complete providing their name, email, and phone number. As of autumn, 2004, all children's books are due back on the last day of classes. We will remind people at the end of the quarter if borrowed items are overdue. Arrangements can be made to use books over break by sending an email to HsiaoChing Yang at yang.302@osu.edu. Returned Books can simply be placed in the bin by the door.
