General Requirements
The application process for students not previously admitted to The Ohio State University Graduate School requires submitting information to both the Admissions Office and the program area to which an applicant is applying. The office addresses and the information each requires are outlined below. Questions concerning these materials are best directed to the specific location. When all materials are received, the complete application will be sent to the graduate faculty of the program area for review and a decision on admission.

- Apply on line at http://www.gradadmissions.osu.edu/ Application fees are $40 for domestic applicants and $50 for international applicants.
If you were previously admitted to Graduate School at Ohio State and are simply transferring from another Ohio State graduate program to the School of Educational Policy and Leadership, or if you are transferring from an M.A. program to a Ph.D. program in the School, please contact the Office of Student Services and Graduate Studies for application materials. You do not have to pay additional application fees.
- Two transcripts from all previous colleges you attended (other than Ohio State). One copy should be sent to the Graduate Admissions Office at the address in the first column listed above and one should be sent to the School of Educational Policy and Leadership at the address in the second column listed below. The benchmark undergraduate GPA is 3.00 for both the M.A. in Higher Education & Student Affairs and the M.A. in Educational Administration. For all Ph.D. applicants, the benchmark graduate GPA is 3.50.
- Graduate Record Examination (GRE).
- All applicants to the Ph.D. program must submit GRE scores from exams taken within the last five years.
- All applicants to the M.A. program in Higher Education and Student Affairs must submit GRE scores from exams that were taken within the last five years.
- GRE scores are required from applicants to the MA program in Educational Administration if their undergraduate GPA is less than a 3.00. Applicants with an undergraduate GPA of 3.00 or higher are not required to take the GRE.
- TOEFL (minimum score of 550 paper based exam; 213 computer based; 79 internet based exam), MELAB (minimum score 82) or IELTS (minimum score 7) is required of an applicant from another country where the native language is not English, unless a bachelor degree or its equivalent was earned in a country where English is the native language.

- Three letters of recommendation: At least one letter should be from a professor who is able to comment on your qualifications for graduate study. It is preferred that recommendation letters be submitted with the reference forms available for download on the Graduate Admissions web site http://www.gradadmissions.osu.edu/. Students applying for both a degree and for licensure must use the EPL Reference Form.
- Statement of Intent: One to two pages should be sufficient for the Statement of Intent. Please include your name and social security number on your statement. The following is a suggested outline (is available on page two of the application checklist):
- Quarter and year of intended enrollment
- Intended section/area of concentration and degree sought
- Autobiographical statement (as it relates to your decision to pursue a degree at this time)
- Educational and professional goals
- Ph.D. applicant should also discuss research interests and fit with your program of choice.

- A professional resume or CV.
- Those applying for admission to the Ph.D. program in Educational Administration should include a sample of scholarly writing.
