Educational Administration

Ph.D. Curriculum

The Ph.D. program in Educational Administration comprises a minimum of 135 graduate quarter hours, with at least 90 hours taken beyond the master's level. Individual programs of study will be designed following the general requirements of the Section and in consultation with the faculty advisor. Coursework requirements include the following:

  • three core classes common to both Educational Administration and Higher Education emphases;
  • core courses unique to each Educational Administration specialization;
  • a multicultural education course;
  • two educational foundations courses;
  • four courses in research methodology beyond the master's level;
  • a research apprenticeship of at least twelve credit hours;
  • a cognate area of at least twelve hours, which may be chosen from within or outside of the College of Education and Human Ecology.
  • at least nine credit hours of independent study directly related to planning the dissertation, to be taken with members of the general examination or dissertation committee.
  • a minimum of six graduate credit hours over a period of at least two quarters after admission to candidacy.

Cognate areas have been developed in fields such as Organization and Human Development, Gender Studies, Administration, Public Policy and Management, Human Resource Development, and African-American and African Studies.
