Higher Education & Student Affairs Program

Student Personnel Assistantship Application Process

SPA

Greetings Prospective Student!

We are pleased to learn of your interest in graduate study and the Student Personnel Assistantship Program (SPA) at The Ohio State University. The SPA Program is a fully integrated M.A. and Ph.D. academic/assistantship program which combines classroom learning with practical experience in higher education and student affairs administration. Founded over 60 years ago, this distinctive program is one of the oldest and most prestigious of its kind in the nation.

The SPA and HESA Application Packet will provide you with additional information about the HESA academic program and the SPA assistantships and application process. In addition, on this page you will find links to information about the SPA Program and application materials for the 2010-2011 academic year. The SPA and HESA General Information Booklet will provide you with additional information about the HESA academic program and the SPA assistantships and application process. In addition, on this page you will find links to information about the SPA Program and application materials for the 2010-2011 academic year. The application is for the SPA Program only. Admission to the academic program in Higher Education and Student Affairs (HESA) requires completion of the OSU graduate admissions application and is available on-line at http://gradadmissions.osu.edu/. Priority consideration for SPA assistantships is given to students in the HESA program. Students applying to HESA may also receive academic program information from the Office of Student Services and Graduate Studies in the School of Educational Policy and Leadership at edplssgs@osu.edu or (614) 688-4007. Graduate Admissions may be reached at (614) 292-9444.

Consideration for an assistantship depends upon admission to the Graduate School. For this reason, attention must first be paid to completing the academic application process. At that same time, you should be completing the SPA application, which can be found here: SPA Application. Those who are admitted or invited to interview for the academic program and who have completed a SPA application submitted by December 1, 2009 are most likely to be invited for assistantship interviews. Please remember that current GRE scores are required to complete your application. We have noted that in past years, applicants who submit their completed academic and SPA applications early tend to be most successful in the admissions and assistantship processes. As a result, you are strongly encouraged to submit applications in October or November of 2009 for Autumn 2010 admission. The SPA office works diligently to place admitted students who wish to attend Ohio State in an assistantship but please understand that admission to the HESA academic program does not guarantee assistantship placement.

Thank you for your interest in OSU's Student Personnel Assistantship Program. If you have any questions, please contact the SPA office at spa@osu.edu or (614) 292-4322.

Sincerely,

Dr. Tammy L. Maltzan
