Higher Education & Student Affairs Program
Student Personnel Assistantship Interview Process
Interviews are required for SPA assistantships. The invitation to interview for assistantships is extended to candidates who have been admitted into the M.A. program in HESA. Applicants for the Ph.D. in HESA are invited to interview both for assistantships and academic admission based on the recommendation of the faculty.
The assistantship process is very competitive and interviews are required. It is to the candidate's benefit to interview on campus, although some offices may be willing to conduct phone interviews. It is unusual, though not impossible, for candidates to be hired based on a phone interview. If you are invited to interview but are unable to come to campus, please talk with the SPA staff to see if alternate arrangements can be made for an interview.
The M.A. interview process generally occurs over a two-day period. The schedule includes:
- an orientation to OSU;
- an overview of the academic program and curriculum;
- an introduction to the faculty;
- a reception with current students, faculty, assistantship supervisors, and student affairs staff;
- campus tour;
- meeting with current students; and
- assistantship interviews. Candidates are typically scheduled for 2-4 interviews. Interview schedules are determined by the SPA office based on your interests, skills, and experiences combined with the needs of individual offices. M.A. interviews in 2010 are scheduled for:
