Scholarly Interests

My research interests lie primarily in the areas of higher education access and degree attainment, students in transition to and through higher education, and student development theory. These interests were reflected in my dissertation, Rurality and Higher Education: Implications for Identity and Persistence. To the higher education and student affairs classroom I bring experience as a student affairs administrator, having held positions primarily in housing and residence life at the University of Colorado-Boulder, Smith College, The University of Vermont, and Buffalo State College. While completing my degree here at OSU, I spent four years working in the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs. Having made the transition from student affairs practitioner to HESA faculty member, my teaching interests include the application of theory in higher education and student affairs practice.
