The School of Educational Policy and Leadership welcomes your interest in its new Administrative Licensure Programs offered through its top-ranked specialty area in educational administration. We offer the following three programs for licensure, based upon regular and accelerated timelines:
- Licensure Program for School Principals and Superintendents (regular timeline)
- Accelerated Licensure Program for Principals
- Accelerated Licensure Program for Superintendents
The Ohio State University's accelerated licensure programs for principals and superintendents are unique in several regards, including:
- a cohort learning experience
- a practical, "hands-on" approach focusing on the problems of leadership practice
- interactive learning with today's outstanding superintendents
- the compilation of a personal executive portfolio
- an opportunity to expand and deepen personal and professional networks
Licensure Program for School Principals and Superintendents (regular timeline)
The Licensure Program for School Principals and Superintendents is practice-oriented and geared to prepare you to meet the challenges of school leadership. The curriculum combines principal licensure and master's degree course work in a 55-quarter hour program. The superintendency licensure requires an additional 21 quarter hours of course work and field experience. Course work at the beginning of your program typically includes administrative dynamics and portfolio development. Accelerated Licensure Program for Principals
The Accelerated Licensure Program for Principals is the response of the College's Educational Administration faculty to the need for school principals. The cohort-model program is tailored to specific districts, including the urban centers. If you A teacher who are is nominated by your his or her superintendent and you who meets the academic requirements for admission to The Ohio State University, you can complete licensure requirements in a 15-month period (summer, autumn, winter, spring, and an additional summer quarter). Cohort members are provided mentorship throughout the 15-month experience by a member of the Educational Administration faculty, in cooperation with a field-based mentor and practicing principals identified by each candidate's school district. Integral to the program is the opportunity for a year long intensive field experience with candidates engaging in administrative experiences activity through action research projects that are designed to assist with a real issue at their schools. Licensure candidates You may accomplish the program requirements while fulfilling full-time responsibilities in a school district. However, the nominating district must make necessary time available for you candidates to participate in the activities of the Accelerated Licensure Program for Principals activities, including the field experience and mentoring.
Requirements for Principal Program:
- Nomination letter from district superintendent
- Two additional letters of recommendation
- Nomination form
- One-page Statement of Interest in the principalship
- Resume
- Bachelor's degree with a minimum 3.0 GPA (original transcripts)
- Licensure application form
Accelerated Licensure Program for Superintendents
The College of Education at Ohio State recognizes the importance of high-impact professional education for schooldistrict executive leaders. Understanding that development extends beyond the classroom, we offer a unique program
of accelerated licensure for superintendents based on three primary propositions:
- Individuals with leadership responsibility and experience can be educated and developed as executives.
- Thoughtful reflection on experience, through the lens of relevant theory and research, advances executive learning.
- The next generation of superintendents must learn from, and be mentored by, the best of the current generation of superintendents.
The Accelerated Licensure Program for Superintendents is designed for educational leaders with a demonstrated track record of success, and program participants are carefully screened. If selected, you a candidate for superintendent licensure will join other participants in a one-year cohort learning experience involving university and field practitioner faculty members.
Requirements for the Accelerated Superintendent Program:
- Nomination letter from district superintendent
