Accelerated Licensure Program for Principals

The Accelerated Licensure Program for Principals was designed by Educational Administration faculty in response to the need for more licensed school principals. The cohort-model program is tailored to specific districts, including the urban centers. If you are a teacher who is nominated by your superintendent and you meet the academic requirements for admission to The Ohio State University, you can complete licensure requirements in a 15-month period (summer, autumn, winter, spring, and an additional summer quarter). Cohort members are provided mentorship throughout the 15-month experience by a member of the Educational Administration faculty in cooperation with a field-based mentor and practicing principals identified by each candidate's school district. Integral to the program is the opportunity for a year-long intensive field experience engaging in administrative activity through action research projects that are designed to assist with a real issue at your schools. You can accomplish the program requirements while fulfilling full-time responsibilities in a school district. However, the nominating district must make necessary time available for you to participate in the activities of the Accelerated Licensure Program for Principals, including the field experience and mentoring.

Application Requirements for the Accelerated Licensure Program for Principals:

  1. Nomination letter from district superintendent *
  2. Two additional letters of recommendation *
  3. Nomination form signed by the district superintendent
  4. One-page Statement of Interest in the principalship +
  5. Resume
  6. Bachelor's degree with a minimum combined 3.0 GPA (original transcripts for all coursework)
  7. Licensure application form

  • Autobiographical statement including educational and professional goals
  • If you are applying for administrative licensure plus degree, include an expression of your beliefs about the capacity for all students to learn and achieve reasonable standards and your knowledge and appreciation of the following:
    • the role played by principals and/or superintendents
    • the influence schools have on society and culture, as well as how schools reflect the society in which they are situated
    • the role school personnel play as agents of change
    • the diversity and worth of students, families, communities, cultures, and background across all ethnic groups, genders, disabilities, and socioeconomic levels
  • You should also address your willingness to:
    • use multiple data sources to drive decisions about student learning
    • study professional practices that impact student learning
