Licensure

Accelerated Licensure Program for Superintendents

The College of Education and Human Ecology at Ohio State recognizes the importance of high-impact professional education for school district executive leaders. Understanding that development extends beyond the classroom, we offer a unique accelerated licensure program for superintendents based on three primary propositions:

  • Individuals with leadership responsibility and experience can be educated and developed as executives.
  • Thoughtful reflection on experience through the lens of relevant theory and research advances executive learning.
  • The next generation of superintendents must learn from and be mentored by the best of the current generation of superintendents.

The Accelerated Licensure Program for Superintendents is designed for educational leaders with a demonstrated track record of success. Program participants are carefully screened and, if selected, will join other participants in a one-year cohort learning experience involving university and field practitioner faculty members.

Consideration for the Accelerated Licensure Program is by school superintendent nomination only. Application Requirements for the Accelerated Licensure Program for Superintendents:

  1. Accelerated Licensure Program for Superintendents Nomination Form*
  2. Accelerated Licensure Program for Superintendents Application
  3. Statement of Intent+
  4. Resume
  5. Three Letters of Recommendation (you must use the reference coversheet for licensure) (pdf). Please note: Admission to the Superintendent’s Program is by school district nomination only.  One reference form must be completed by your school district superintendent. If you are not currently working in a school district please contact the Licensure Coordinator at 614-688-4007.

PRAXIS II (NTEAS or NTLAS) Administration and Supervision Exam Scores (if still available).  The state of Ohio requires that all administrators (principals/superintendents) pass the PRAXIS II exam.  If you do not currently hold an Ohio Administrator’s license you will need to take/pass the PRAXIS II exam and have scores sent to OSU and ODE before your license can be approved.
  9. GRE Scores (required if combined cumulative undergrad GPA is below a 3.0 or if applying to the PhD program)
  10. IF you have previously enrolled as a degree seeking graduate student at Ohio State: Request for Transfer of Graduate Program Form (pdf) and a copy of your Application File from your previous academic department.

* Nomination forms are given directly to area district superintendents. If your superintendent has not been sent the nomination form please contact Diane Baugher for a copy.
