You should periodically review your program with your advisor to be sure you are on track to Graduate. Below you will find links to handbooks, lists and forms you will need to stay on track with your program and graduate in a timely fashion.

The Student Services Office will send out quarterly email messages to current students to remind them of the deadline dates to submit applications to graduate for the upcoming quarter.

Once you and your advisor have determined that you are ready to graduate, you should turn in the following paperwork to the Student Services Office by the published deadline date:

  1. An application to Graduate for your degree
  2. Program Plan for MA students (PhD students will have turned in their program sheet prior to taking the candidacy exam)

Before your application to graduate can be forwarded to the Graduate School, it must first be reviewed by the Student Services Office and then signed by the Chair of the Graduate Studies Committee. The staff of the Student Services Offices reviews your academic plan to make sure that you have met the School's requirements for your degree (MA or PhD) and the Graduate School's requirements. The staff will also review your academic record to make sure all your grades have been turned in (except for the current quarter), that you are registered for 3 graduate credit hours and that you have paid for those credit hours.

Once your application is reviewed and considered complete, we will ask the Graduate Studies Chair to sign the form and we will forward it to the Graduate School for processing.

After we process applications to graduate, Master's degree students will be contacted about taking the School's comprehensive master's examination unless you have made alternate plans with your advisor or are writing a thesis. Student Services staff will proctor comprehensive exams when 5 or more students are taking the exam. If fewer than 5 students are scheduled to take the exam during a particular quarter, separate arrangements must be made with your advisor to take the examination.

For information about commencement, please see http://commencement.osu.edu/. If you are unable to attend commencement, please submit a Commencement Absence Form (pdf) to the Graduate School.
