Introduction

In this unit, students will be investigating the process and skills necessary for building and maintaining healthy relationships as they experience transitions in life such as from middle school to high school. Students will be developing friendship questions for a survey of their peers. Stems to ten questions have been provided; students will read and discuss each concept reflected in the stems and then write four possible responses that emerge from their reading to construct the survey. Students will summarize the results and orally present their data in the classroom. A set of reflective prompts directs students to respond to the questions and their findings. Students will write a four-verse rap and chorus, or four articles for the school newspaper, about some aspect of the survey findings and the knowledge gained about building relationships during the project.
