Couple and Family Therapy Clinic

The Couple and Family Therapy Clinic at the Ohio State University serves students, faculty and staff of the University, as well as the greater Columbus community. This clinic provides training for doctoral students enrolled in the couple and family therapy program while under the direct supervision of CFT clinical faculty.

What We Do

The practice of couple and family therapy is concerned with the problems and needs of individual, relational and family relationships. Couple and family therapists believe that difficulties are best dealt with in the context of these relationships. When it is not possible to have all family members present in therapy sessions, services will be provided to individuals.

Services Provided

The CFT program at OSU is fully accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education, a division of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy. This national governing body provides members with a set of ethical, professional, training, and educational guidelines. All CFT faculty are clinical members of AAMFT and all student therapists are required to meet AAMFT standards of training and education.

The clinical staff provides therapy addressing a variety of individual, relational, and family concerns including, but not limited to, the following:

  • Adult Survivor issues
  • Incest/Sexual Abuse
  • Adjustment to divorce
  • Marital Conflict
  • Parent-Child Issues
  • Domestic Violence
  • Addictions
  • Family Stress
  • Bereavement and Loss
  • Stepfamily issues
  • Relationship Concerns
  • Eating Disorders

Therapists

All therapists are students in the CFT Ph.D. Program at Ohio State and have master's degrees in clinically related fields. They have all had previous experience either in their graduate training or in the field.

The Couple and Family Therapy Clinic is located in Mount Hall on the West Campus of the Ohio State University in the 012 Suite. Mount Hall is conveniently located on Carmack Road, near the intersection of Lane and Kenny. There is metered parking for clients in the front of the building.

Clinic Hours

The CFT Clinic is open for both day and evening appointments, Monday through Thursday, with day time appointments on Fridays.

Appointments

People interested in setting an initial appointment should call (614) 292-3671. Generally, a voice-mail system will take your message, and a clinical staff member will return your call as soon as possible. You will be asked to provide some basic information about you and your family in order to best determine your present needs. Your family will be assigned to one of our therapists on a first-come, first-serve basis, or you will be placed on a waiting list to receive services at the earliest possible time. Therapy sessions are generally conducted in the evening, Monday through Thursday, although some day and morning times are available.

Fees

Fees are charged on a per session basis. A sliding fee scale is used to set charges based on current income and number of dependents in the household. We are unable to accept insurance for payment, but generally the fees are similar to, if not lower than, co-pays for mental health in most insurance plans. You will be told what your fee would be when you call.
