HDFS Undergraduate Programs

HDFS Fieldwork Option

Introduction

Welcome to the Fieldwork Placement Guide. Here are a few pieces of information that will be of help to you as you browse this section of our website.

First, fieldwork is open to HDFS students in the Family Studies program option only.

Second, fieldwork refers to a supervised internship at an approved community based (human service) agency. Students may find placements in a variety of human services settings to include mental health, social work, family advocacy, and child welfare, among others.

Third, fieldwork emphasizes the integration of academic and hands-on learning. It gives the student an opportunity to apply course work to practical situations. Fieldwork also allows the student to explore career options, gain valuable skills, build professional relationships, and launch a career.

Fourth, each fieldwork experience is a two-quarter commitment (winter and spring quarters) and requires 240 hours of supervised internship work.
