The Department of Human Development and Family Science has a limited number of half-time positions for individuals who are seeking financial support while enrolled as a graduate student. A new graduate student may indicate his/her interest in one of these positions by checking the financial aid box on the Admission Application obtained from The Ohio State University Graduate School. In addition, both new and current graduate students should apply for these positions by completing a Graduate Associateship Application. (Forms may be obtained from the Department Secretary and are due by February 1st each year - online form will be ready for download soon.) Below are brief job descriptions of the various positions.
Child Development Laboratory Child Care Program:
Under the supervision of the lead teacher team teaching in the laboratory day care program including planning and implementing the daily curriculum, co-supervising undergraduate practicum students, co-leading undergraduate practicum seminar; working closely with faculty associated with program. Early childhood teaching experience required.
Supervisor of undergraduate social-service agency experience:
The supervisor assists undergraduates as they apply their course work to the work of a wide variety of social service agencies. Experience with agencies and a general knowledge of the social service system are necessary.
Course Instructors:
Assistant's duties may include the following but are not limited to the following list: attend lectures, assist with audio-visual and prepare classroom (as requested), lecture to class (as requested), assist with examination development and grading, assist L.D. student(s), arrange for make-up exams, grade papers, organize and keep grade records, and offer office hours to assist students. Doctoral students may be assigned primary instructional responsibilities for undergraduate classes.
Doctoral or second year Master's degree students with six quarter hours of research methodology/statistics and familiarity with either SAS or SPSS package programs.
Writing reports, compiling and analyzing data, conducting library searches, reviewing students' records, working with students in general advising, some computer work, some general office work.
