HDFS Poster Printer
example of a poster
In an effort to facilitate the sharing of departmental research and other professional projects/products, poster printing is available for department faculty, staff and students at the honors, masters and doctoral levels. It is hoped that having this service available in the department will be helpful and convenient.
During the 2005-2006 academic year, the department formed an ad hoc poster printing committee who developed these policies and procedures to govern the use the departmental HP Designjet 500 printer.
Policies & Procedures
- All posters that have been accepted for presentation at a conference are eligible to be printed during this pilot period at departmental expense. A copy of your acceptance correspondence must be attached to the HDFS Poster Request Form (PRF).
- All professional, non-presentation reasons for printing a poster must be approved by the department chair (via signature on the PRF).
- All student poster printing requests must be submitted by a corroborating faculty/staff member.
- Only one poster will be printed per presentation/professional use. No reprints will be made for any reason other than printer errors, such as low ink.
- Posters should be created in PowerPoint using one of the HDFS-specific templates available below:
- Poster backgrounds must be mainly plain white.
- The largest size poster that will be printed is 42" tall x 48" wide.
- A poster proof is required before a full-size poster will be printed. Development of the poster/proof is the responsibility of the requester, not the poster printer committee.
- Complete the PRF and deliver it with your proof and acceptance correspondence (if a conference poster) to Suzanne Bartle-Haring in person. If Suzanne is not available, go to Sarah Schoppe-Sullivan.
- Once the proof and PRF receive sign-off, e-mail the poster PowerPoint file to Suzanne (or the poster printing committee person from whom you received sign-off). They will add it to the printing queue and give you an estimate of the time you should plan to arrive at the poster printing room (159 CM) to get your poster.
- Poster printing will only take place during the business hours of 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Allow for a 2 business day turn-around during non-peak times, and a 3-4 business day turn around during peak conference times (e.g., NCFR, AAMFT, etc.).
Points to Consider
- We strongly urge you to thoughtfully read through the tutorial on using PowerPoint to create posters (pdf file) that the Center for Knowledge Management has placed on its website.
- You're responsible for knowing the size requirements for your poster and modifying the page set-up of your file accordingly. Keep in mind the largest poster that will be printed is 42" tall x 48" wide.
- Colors and shades may not exactly match what shows up on your PC monitor. Posters will not be reprinted solely on the basis of poor color outcomes (except in instances when the printer ink color ran out).
- One poster will be printed per presentation/professional use.
- Be sure to include the OSU Logo and recognize the College, Department, and any grant(s) that sponsored the research featured on your poster.
- The poster printing committee is not responsible for providing any editing, proofing, or software/technical support.
- Be sure to give yourself enough lead time prior to your leaving for the conference to get your poster printed. Keep in mind that many of your colleagues will also need posters printed. Your failure to plan ahead will not constitute a crisis for the poster printing committee. Printing will take place on a strict first-come, first-served process. You are strongly encouraged to develop your poster as soon possible to avoid bottle-necks at peak print times.
- This is a pilot effort for the 2005-2006 academic year. In future years, a fee-for-service policy may be instituted.
- Using the departmental poster printer is but one of several printing options (e.g., Kinkos, CopEz, BioMed, etc.). If your requirements and needs do not fit well with the above policies and procedures, you are encouraged to pursue these other options.
