Academic advising within the Department of Human Nutrition is a continual process. Your first conference should occur as early as possible during your first quarter in the College. There is a departmental orientation meeting for new students each quarter which will provide important information about your major, the department, and registration. You will be informed of your assigned advisor at this time. If you are unable to attend the orientation meeting, please notify the Student Services Office (201 Campbell Hall) to identify your advisor.
More information about your faculty advisor is listed in our faculty and staff directory.
Planning and scheduling your program is ultimately your responsibility. Fulfilling this responsibility requires contacting your advisor to make appointments for conferences and following the scheduling guidelines outlined in this Handbook. Prior to scheduling your first advising conference, obtain a program sheet from Room 201 Campbell (a copy is also included in this Handbook). Using the most current The Ohio State University Bulletin, Course Offerings, Book 3 and current Master Schedule (can be found at www.ureg.ohio-state.edu), develop an academic plan for graduation, listing when you will take required courses. Each student has a "Scheduling Folder" which is kept in Room 201 Campbell, and must be picked up by you and taken to each advising appointment.
Since the Didactic Program in Dietetics at Ohio State meets the knowledge requirements specified by the Commission of Accreditation/Approval for Dietetics Education, students completing the program will not only receive a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Ecology, but also a Verification Statement indicating that they have completed the American Dietetic Association (ADA) knowledge requirements.
Students who complete the DPD are eligible to apply for a pre-professional practice experience (Dietetic Internships) which meets the ADA performance requirements. Computerized matching of applicants to supervised practice programs occurs each April and November.
