Student Awards and Financial Assistance

The Department of Human Nutrition is pleased to honor our students' accomplishments. Accepted or enrolled graduate students studying under the direction of one of the Human Nutrition faculty can apply or be nominated for many financial and professional development opportunities.

Academic Fellowships

The Department of Human Nutrition has endowments for up to three fellowships that fund a stipend and tuition for 1 to 4 quarters. The fellowships may not be available each year and are subject to the availability of funds.

Applications due March 2009. The application form will be coming soon.

Research Awards

The Department of Human Nutrition has two endowments to support the research of graduate students. Students can submit a research proposal that will be judged for merit by a committee of faculty. Awards are generally $2000 but may be more or less depending on available funds.

Outstanding Graduate Student in Research

Faculty nominate graduate students for the annual Outstanding Graduate Student in Research Award. The winner of this award is announced at the end of the academic year. A monetary gift from the Department of Human Nutrition is given to the recipient.

Outstanding Graduate Teaching Associate

Faculty members nominate the graduate students who in their opinion were the outstanding Graduate Teaching Associate during the academic year. The winner of this award is announced at the end of the academic year. A monetary gift from the Department of Human Nutrition is given to the recipient.

Graduate Teaching Associateship

The Department of Human Nutrition awards Graduate Teaching Associateships to provide assistance to faculty for 20 hours per week. The award provides stipend and tuition for 3 academic quarters and in some circumstances, a 4th quarter tuition waiver. Applicants to the MS program can request consideration for the associateship and enrolled MS or PhD students can be nominated by their advisor. Associateships are awarded competitively and will be announced in the spring or summer quarters each academic year for the following academic year.

Travel Awards

The Department of Human Nutrition awards funds for travel for students making presentations at professional meetings. Advisors nominate students and pledge matching funds. Awards are made on an as requested basis and are subject to approval by the Chair, Department of Human Nutrition.
