Human Nutrition Undergraduate Programs

Student Involvement

Ohio State and the Department of Human Nutrition offer a variety of involvement opportunities to allow students to get the most out of their academic careers.

Food Nutrition Forum

Food and Nutrition Forum (FNF) is a student organization that promotes professionalism in the area of Dietetics, Nutrition and health care. The student make-up of FNF is primarily undergraduate Dietetic or Nutrition majors, but all ranks of students and majors are welcome.

The group meets three times per quarter (excluding summer quarter). Meetings will feature guest speakers with professional experience in the field of Dietetics or nutrition. All meetings are informal, and refreshments are provided. Dues for FNF are $4 quarterly or $10 annually. Money collected from dues and fundraisers is used for FNF activities such as attending the Ohio Dietetic Association meetings, supplies for community service projects, and refreshments for meeting times.

Joining FNF is a great way to meet other nutrition students, faculty, and gain new perspectives on possible career paths.

For more information, please contact FNF faculty advisor Dr. Anne Smith at smith.23@osu.edu.

Global Nutrition Club

The Global Nutrition Club (GNC) is a student organization, open to all majors, which focuses on world-wide issues concerning hunger, food security, and nutrition. The group offers opportunities for service at local food pantries, fundraising for national and international relief efforts, and educational development through guest speakers and presentations.

For more information, please contact GNC faculty advisor Dr. Hugo Melgar-Quiñonez at hmelgar-quinonez@ehe.osu.edu.

Undergraduate Research

Students are encouraged to get involved with undergraduate research opportunities. Research allows a student to work closely with a faculty member and to delve deeper into a particular topic of interest. Research experience is especially beneficial for those students wishing to pursue graduate studies.

For information about undergraduate research opportunities in the Department of Human Nutrition, please contact Dr. Joshua Bomser at jbomser@ehe.osu.edu or visit the Ohio State Undergraduate Research Office website: http://undergraduateresearch.osu.edu/.
