OSU Kid Corps Hosts its First Annual "Parent Make-It-Take-It" Event!
Ohio State students enrolled in the OSU Kid Corps program work every week with at-risk preschoolers to help prepare the skills necessary for success in school. To give parents and caregivers an opportunity to create projects that can be used in the home, the OSU Kid Corps program hosted its first annual "Parent Make-It-Take-It" events. The purposes of the events are to give parents easily accessible materials and low cost practices to enhance the language and literacy development of their pre-school children. Events were held throughout the month of February in each of our five partner early child development centers and attracted over 100 parents and 200 children. Activities included: dry-erase calendars, magnetic letters, ABC and name puzzles, postcards and developmental games that can be created in the home with their children. Additionally, each child was presented with a book created just for them by OSU Kid Corps members. The parents especially enjoyed the collaboration and communication with Kid Corps Staff, Corps Members and Center Staff as well as the quality time that was spent with their children. Overall, the events were a huge success!
