The huge Davis Gym at the exciting new Recreation and Physical Activities Center provided a fabulous space for our enthusiastic alumni.
The Ohio State 2006 Reunion Weekend Sept. 1 and 2 marked the first opportunity for alumni from the new College of Education and Human Ecology to celebrate together.
A good time was had by all on Friday, Sept. 1, at the Alumni Reunion Dinner. A representative group of alumni from the new college toasted the anniversary of their graduation, relived good memories, and honored the excellence of their past and exciting future.
Music from the eras of the graduating classes filled the air, interspersed with music by the Ohio State Marching Band and other popular favorites. The conference room at 807 Kinnear Road was transformed into a celebration space.
The location, which belongs to the college's Literacy Collaborative and Center for Learning Excellence, assumed a festive air. The meal of succulent pot roast and apple pie a la mode, favorites from the 1950s, heightened everyone's enjoyment of the event.
On Saturday, September 2, more than 450 people attended the new college's Fall Tailgate before the game with Northern Illinois. Balloon arches and a parade of flags decorated the Davis Gym at the new Recreation and Physical Activities Center (RPAC) on campus.
Alumni from diverse programs of the college mingled at both events, enjoying each other's fellowship and appreciating the strength of our diverse expertise. Student ambassadors, faculty, and staff, all from different areas of the new college, added to the broad range of people getting acquainted.
"We enjoyed it a lot," said Cynthia O'Connell (BS '56, Education) of the reunion dinner. "We liked talking to the dean, who sat at the table with us. We heard many interesting stories and enjoyed hearing the points of view of the many people. My husband didn't go to Ohio State, but he liked the idea so much of having a reunion for each college's alumni, he proposed it to his alma mater. We had a very good time."
"It was good to see the combination of college alumni," said Phyllis Wiley (BS '56, Home Economics Education) of the reunion dinner. "It's exciting to meet with others. They were so interested in our work with our unique camp in Ohio," she said, referring to Marmon Valley Farm and Faith Ranch, which she and her husband Bill Wiley manage.
"Our combined Fall Rally certainly was a great beginning event for the new college," said Louann "Tot" Heinrichs, past president of the Human Ecology Alumni Society. "It was neat seeing 'old' and 'new' faces and realizing how much we all have in common. It was fun to table hop and conversation came easily. Plan to join us next year."
