Associate Professor Ian Wilkinson and Professor David Bloome, the new editors of Reading Research Quarterly, the premier journal in the field of reading and literacy research, hope to extend the journal's influence. Wilkinson notes, "We will seek to take RRQ from being a top reading research journal to being one of the top journals in the social sciences in the world."
Bloome points out that the recent emphasis on science and research in reading education programs means that Reading Research Quarterly influences how children, adolescents, and adults are taught to read. "The Quarterly publishes the highest quality literacy research and fosters connections among researchers worldwide to build a coherent knowledge base in literacy across geographic and intellectual borders," he says.
Wilkinson is an educational psychologist focused on learning, literacy instruction, and the research methods used to study them. Dr. Bloome, a linguistic ethnographer, studies how people use spoken and written language for learning in classrooms and in family and community settings. Both faculty members are in the college's School of Teaching and Learning.
