Phi Delta Kappa International has named James L. Moore III (http://education.osu.edu/jmoore/) as an Emerging Leader, the latest of a series of honors for the Counselor Education faculty member at The Ohio State University.
Only 13 candidates worldwide will be given the Emerging Leader designation. They are scholars and educators who are under 40 years old, but have already gathered impressive career accomplishments.
Moore received the honor for 2007-2008 at a ceremony Friday, Oct. 19, during the PDK Summit on Global Education in Vancouver, British Columbia.
"It is truly humbling to be recognized by PDK for my research," said Moore. "To be honest, I hope that my work will positively impact education for all students, especially those traditionally underserved."
Moore is an associate professor of physical activity and educational services in the College of Education and Human Ecology and a faculty member at the Kirwan Institute for the Study of Race and Ethnicity. He is also the coordinator of the school counseling program in Counselor Education. From January to August 2007, while on leave of absence, Moore was the secondary school counseling coordinator for the District of Columbia Public Schools, Washington, D.C.
"Dr. Moore and the other individuals selected to be in the 2007-2008 class of PDK Emerging Leaders represent the best of the profession. They are leaders who show the dedication needed to prepare our students for the future," said William J. Bushaw, PDK International executive director.
"We are proud of Dr. Moore's selection by PDK," said David W. Andrews, dean of the College of Education and Human Ecology. "His outstanding work influences how school counselors are trained nationwide, and in turn helps ensure the educational success of students of color."
The Counselor Education program in the School of Physical Activity and Educational Services is currently ranked fourth in the country by U.S. News and World Report, a jump from 8th place.
PDK International is a leading association of education professionals, with 49,000 members worldwide.xhtml | css | 508 © 2008 The Ohio State University - College of Education and Human Ecology. All Rights Reserved.
