It’s official. The Schoenbaum Family Center at Weinland Park near the university, formerly known as the Early Childhood Development Center, was dedicated on Wednesday, June 27, at a rousing celebration given by the College of Education and Human Ecology.
Center supporters of all ages enjoyed the carnival-style event. Healthy snacks, games for children, and tours of the new building kept everyone enjoying themselves.
Lead private donor Betty Schoenbaum expressed excitement at the unveiling of the new name. The center name honors her and her husband, Alex Schoenbaum, who founded Shoney's restaurants and passed away in 1996. Both are long-time friends and supporters of Ohio State, having met there during their student days.
The center opens in August to 88 children and their families, offering space for teaching, research, community gatherings, and the highest quality education and care for the children. Curriculum is being designed jointly with the adjacent Weinland Park Elementary School to provide children with a seamless experience from infancy through fifth grade.
