23rd Annual TeachOhio 2008: Teacher recruitment fair brings together candidates, schools

pre-service students attending the 2008 TeachOhio

Several of the 40 MSaT pre-service students attending the 2008 TeachOhio event accepted jobs from districts nationwide. The M.Ed. candidates, including the 17 pictured above, are preparing for 7-12 licensure in mathematics or science.

TeachOhio represents the traditional central Ohio kickoff for the teacher recruitment season each year. Jean Wyer, career advisor for the College of Education and Human Ecology, says, "Our goal is to facilitate contacts between teachers and school personnel in April that will result in employment relationships in August."

On April 10, the respected recruitment fair jumpstarted careers for 467 teacher candidates and provided hiring opportunities for 124 schools districts that flocked to the event from 19 states.

TeachOhio is attended by teacher candidates from a consortium of seven universities:

Columbus' Aladdin Shrine Center provided a larger venue this year to accommodate the many recruiters. All candidates are education majors, mainly those graduating in spring or summer '08, who will be licensed to teach by autumn 2008. Alumni are welcome, as are current students. Thirty-one volunteers helped facilitate the event.
