US News & World Report ranks college, programs in top tier
The new US News & World Report survey of education graduate programs places The Ohio State University College of Education and Human Ecology's overall ranking as 17th in a tie with Indiana University-Bloomington. The survey results show EHE is in the top 10 for public education colleges.
The rankings are in the April 9 U.S. News & World Report issue and in its guide, America's Best Graduate Schools, for graduate students enrolling in 2008-2009.
"I am elated that the college, created in July 2007, will debut in the rankings as Number 17 among 245 public and private universities, and as Number 10 among public institutions," said David Andrews, dean of the college. "This shines the light directly on a new day in a new college."
In addition, the college has six specialty graduate programs ranked in the top 10. Another four are in the top 20. As a result, Ohio State is represented in all 10 US News specialty categories for education.
Three specialties are in the top five. Vocational/Technical Education, which has received numerous first-place honors, again is on top. Counseling/Personnel Services is fourth, a jump from 8th place last year. Elementary Education also is fourth in a tie with the University of Georgia.
Another three areas are in the top 10. Curriculum and Instruction is in sixth place, tied with the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor. Secondary Education is seventh; and Administration and Supervision, ninth.
With the addition of four programs in the top 20, the college was ranked in all 10 US News specialty categories. Special Education just missed the top 10 with a 12th-place ranking. Higher Education Administration is 14th. Education Psychology went up one place, to 17th in a tie with the University of Washington. Education Policy is in a three-way tie for 19th with George Washington and Northwestern universities.
