College continues as 10th-ranked public university grad program
The Education Administration program jumped three spots to No. 6 in the latest USNews & World Report survey of best graduate programs.
The result is among the data that will be used by future students interested in enrolling at Ohio State for 2009-2010.
The survey also indicates the College of Education and Human Ecology moves upward among the educational programs at 242 schools in the United States that grant doctoral degrees.
The college's overall ranking went to 16th among public and private universities, and No. 10 for public education colleges.
"The USNews & World Report graduate program survey results acknowledge the College of Education and Human Ecology's excellence in all areas, from preparing teachers to developing the professionals who serve schools," said Sandra Stroot, interim dean of the college.
"We are proud of our history as a member of top tier programs for almost 20 years."
Five other specialty graduate programs also continued to be ranked in the top 10. Another four are in the top 20. As a result, Ohio State again is represented in all 10 USNews specialty categories for education.
The perennial top-ranked Career and Technical Education program in the School of Physical Activity and Educational Services is again No. 1 in the Technical Teacher Education category (formerly Vocational Education).
Counselor Education in the School of Physical Activity and Educational Services and Personnel Services in the School of Educational Policy and Leadership share the fourth place honors in the Student Counseling and Personnel Services category. They are tied with the University of North Carolina-Greensboro.
All three of the college's academic schools share the credit for the sixth place in the Curriculum and Instruction specialty area.
Early Childhood Education/Elementary Education in the School of Teaching and Learning is in sixth place for the Elementary Teacher Education category.
Teaching and Learning and Physical Activity and Educational Service's licensure programs in the Secondary Teacher Education category are tied for seventh with Teachers College, Columbia University.
