Two Education and Human Ecology faculty are among three distinguished professors who have received support from the Fire and Focus Scholarship to augment their important work.
Adrienne Dixson, Teaching and Learning, and Golden Jackson, Consumer Sciences and the Schoenbaum Family Center at Weinland Park, along with Subha Raman, College of Medicine, were honored during a luncheon Oct. 14 in Columbus.
Joyce Beatty, senior vice president for outreach and engagement at Ohio State and founder of Fire and Focus, said the support will enable the scholars to share their research with the broader Columbus community.
Dixson, associate professor of multicultural and urban education, focuses on race and racial and gender identities. She is conducting a project on school reform in post-Katrina New Orleans. Her courses explore Critical Race Theory, educational equity and diversity, culturally relevant pedagogy, and multicultural education.
Jackson, associate professor of consumer and family financial services, recently was named executive director of the Schoenbaum Family Center, where she continues her work in building community in the Weinland Park area. She is nationally recognized as a leader in service-learning education.
Since its inception in 2002, Fire and Focus has handed out more than $40,000 in scholarships for community projects and programs.
