Education graduate programs rise to 8th in U.S.News & World Report ranks
Consistent with our efforts to strive for excellence, the College of Education and Human Ecology rose to 8th among public university graduate education programs, according to the latest U.S.News & World Report survey.
The survey, released April 23, 2009, serves as a data point for new students to consider as they enroll at Ohio State for 2010-11.
The college's overall ranking stayed at 16th among the 278 public and private universities granting doctoral degrees in education.
"These rankings underscore the great and growing strength of Ohio State's faculty," said President E. Gordon Gee. "While the rankings are gratifying, the truest measure of the university's impact cannot be quantified -- the power to change lives and improve our communities."
Among all universities public and private, the magazine rates 11 Ohio State graduate programs in the top ten nationally. Six of them are in the College of Education and Human Ecology:
- Administration/Supervision tied for 5th with Pennsylvania State University-University Park. Our program has risen from 9th place in three years.
- Elementary Education tied for 5th with the University of Virginia-Curry and Vanderbilt University.
- Secondary Teacher Education was 5th, as was Curriculum/Instruction.
- Student Counseling and Personnel Services was in a four-way tie for 6th with Indiana University-Bloomington, University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, and the University of North Carolina-Greensboro.
- Vocational and Technical Education programming ranked 2nd in the nation.
In the top 20 nationwide are four more of our specialty graduate programs:
- Education Policy tied for 17th with University of Arizona.
- Educational Psychology tied for 16th with Indiana University-Bloomington, Northwestern University, University of Georgia, and University of Washington.
- Higher Education Administration tied for 17th with University of Arizona.
- Special Education was 16th, up from 20th last year.
