Project ASPIRE may be right for you!
Do you aspire to change careers and become a teacher of math, science or foreign language in an urban school? Want an assured job after graduation with Columbus City Schools?
Would you like to receive a stipend while earning your master's degree?
The college's Project ASPIRE, an innovative initiative to prepare and support new urban teachers, is now recruiting professionals who already have bachelor's degrees in high-need subject areas and would like to teach at the middle or high school level (grades 7-12).
The accelerated master's program starts in summer 2012 and takes only one year to complete.
During this time, you will receive a $30,000 stipend and have access to one of the most innovative teacher preparation programs in the nation. Classes and seminars will be devoted to learning the traits of an effective urban teacher. By completion of the program, you will be trained as a teacher as well as a community and student advocate focused on improving urban education.
Upon graduation, you will commit to three years of teaching with Columbus City Schools as part of a new model Teacher Residency program. High-quality mentors will provide support and professional development activities to ensure your success.
To qualify, you must have maintained a 3.0 grade point average during your bachelor's degree program, taken prerequisite courses in math, science or foreign language, and submit the following:
ASPIRE stands for Apprenticeships Supported by Partnerships for Innovation and Reform in Education. With funding from the U.S. Department of Education, the project focuses on improving Ohio's teacher preparation system.
