A celebratory mood permeated the air as Reading Recovery teachers, teacher leaders, teacher trainers, spouses, family and friends crowded the banquet room at Ohio State's Blackwell Inn on February 5, 2010.
Professor Emeriti Gay Su Pinnell and Ron Heath, retired from Wall Street, generously hosted the national celebration of the 25th anniversary of Reading Recovery, an early intervention for first-graders who struggle with reading.
Pinnell, who is well known in the field of early literacy, worked with Professor Marie Clay, New Zealand developer of Reading Recovery, to bring to bring the program to North America and Ohio State in the early 1980s.
Pinnell and Heath welcomed guests ranging from those who trained in the very first Reading Recovery teacher leader class or teacher class in 1984-'85 to current teachers and teacher leaders.
Many attendees were in town for the 2010 Teacher Leader Institute from February 6-7 or the 2010 National Reading Recovery & K-6 Classroom Literacy Conference from February 6-9. All were delighted to join the anniversary celebration fun as a major winter storm accumulated a foot of snow outside.
