Message from Your Dean:
New Model Proves Value of Food Safety Education
Dean Cheryl Achterberg

Dear Alumni and Friends,

Your health is critically important to us. That's why Robert Scharff, an economist and an assistant professor of consumer sciences, created a new method for measuring the economic cost of foodborne illness.

Foodborne illness costs every one of us. Scharff uses the model to show that food safety education saves by cutting medical expenses and days lost from work.

Read more about the model and how Scharff and Human Nutrition Professor Lydia Medeiros calculated the cost/benefit of food safety education in Ohio.
